Hitch

I dreamed that me and a mate were driving to the south coast somewhere, and saw some hitch hikers, so we gave them a lift.

Oddly, my mate - the driver - decided to let one of the hitch hikers drive.

Even more oddly, the other one - who sat in the front passenger seat - turned round and handed breadknives to us, which was their way of reassuring us that they were trustworthy.

Somewhere along the journey, my mate managed to accidentally stab me in the leg. It wasn't a serious wound, but there was blood everywhere.

your mate is very accidental prone! dreams are so odd aren't they? but that's what youd expect usually. it's when i dream fairly normal dreams that i wake up disturbed.

Oh dear, I fear this means your friend is goin to stab you in the back...

Or it could mean nothing at all.

Hi mei, I think I know what you mean. Usually for me though, it doesn't matter whether the subject matter of the dream is normal or weird: it's the atmosphere that underpins it.

So whether it's a dream about making a cup of tea or running away from scary 60ft high monsters, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be nice or nasty. If this makes sense.

nmj, correct on both counts - well perhaps. Anyway I think I'd rather be stabbed in the leg than the back. I just don't know really.

fb, yes: probably :)

I think dreams are often just a receptacle of random stuff in our heads: desires/fears/nonsense, but stimes they *can* be eerily prescient. I recently dreamt an Alsation had bitten right through my hand, it was grim, and the dream was so vivid that I looked up the meaning - being bitten by a dog often means a friend is goin' to betray you. A week later, I had some news which pretty much amounted to a betrayal so I think my subconscious suspected all along that things were amiss and sent the Alsation to tell me.

I agree with that, nmj - and that the often eerie prescience is because your subconscious has been trying to tell you stuff. This particular dream last night seemed to be one of several.

I think I can trace it back to things I've read or been aware of in recent days, and I think I know that some of the themes are about chaos and control.

zola, it's less about when I get better, and more about when I get driving lessons. Trust me.
